Weekend Update #2
Reflection
After this week at the holiday club, the Lord opened my eyes and made me realize how materialistic and spoiled I am. I learned to be more grateful for what I have, but it was also a fun week seeing all the kids not only enjoying their time with us but also being receptive to the Word of God.
This Saturday we went back to Pastor Ziba’s church and talked about the struggles and issues in Cape Town and how to engage both the Langa Community and NYC. It was interesting to see how, despite us living miles away from each other, we still face the same struggles of poverty, addiction, and brokenness. Yet there is hope because we believe in the one who can heal us from all those things.
Afterwards, we went to see penguins and walked around; It was a really nice way to unwind and admire the beautiful creation of God and connect with nature. To celebrate the 4th of July, we had a braai, and it was my first one; all I have to say is that it was delicious. It was a nice time to hang out and celebrate with each other.
On Sunday we went to Common Ground church in the morning and at night, and they had a powerful message, that tied in everything we have been experiencing; Jesus is the bread of life and he is the one who opens our hearts to receive him so we are trusting that seeds have been planted and though we may be going home, He will continue to build on what he has started. It was great to foster new relationships with those we met, and I ask that you continue to pray that we won’t forget the things we learned and experienced and be bold to join in the work God is doing in NYC. See you soon!
