Day 1
God Behind the Scenes
First day of Holiday Club done! Our day started with a bit of rain, but despite that, it was a wonderful first day. We were told that the first day is usually the hardest as everyone gets oriented, the team settles into their roles, and we see how many children show up. For my very first missions trip, it went much more smoothly than I expected. During our debrief, I learned there had been a lot happening behind the scenes that I never even noticed while serving with the children. I’m so grateful for the leadership of Pastor Tim, Leslie, Scripture Union, and the entire team serving so faithfully.
Today, the children learned that they are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10) through the story of Queen Esther, seeing how God is always working behind the scenes. Watching them eagerly recite Scripture, play games, and enjoy being together was such a joy.
One moment that especially stayed with me was when a young boy in my group shyly handed me the crown he had just colored. It felt especially meaningful after the lesson about Queen Esther, reminding me that God sees us, delights in us, and has a purpose for each of our lives. Even on this first day, the Lord gently reminded me that He sees me too.
Thank you so much for praying for us. Please continue to pray for the children – that seeds of faith would be planted and continue to grow. Pray for more children to come throughout the week, for safety as protests are expected tomorrow, and for God’s protection over our team and this country. Please also pray that each of us would be transformed through this trip so that when we return to New York City, we would continue living on mission right where God has placed us.
