In this message from Psalm 125, we are reminded where true security is found in a world marked by hardship, injustice, and uncertainty.

The psalm opens with a powerful image: “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” Just as Jerusalem was surrounded by mountains, God surrounds His people. Their stability is not rooted in geography, power, or circumstance—but in the presence and protection of the Lord.

Psalm 125 acknowledges that the “scepter of wickedness” may rule for a season. Evil leaders may rise. Injustice may seem to prevail. Yet God promises that wickedness will not ultimately rest upon the land allotted to the righteous. He will not allow evil to triumph forever, nor will He abandon His people to corruption. Instead, He calls His people to remain steadfast—to trust Him rather than resort to crooked paths.

The psalm presents two ways:

  • Those who trust the Lord and walk uprightly will receive His goodness and peace.

  • Those who turn to crooked ways will face judgment alongside evildoers.

Trust in God is not passive; it is lived out in obedience. Those who trust Him do good, remain upright in heart, pray for justice, and resist aligning themselves with corrupt power.

Ultimately, this psalm points us forward to Jesus Christ. He is the true and greater Zion—the cornerstone laid in God’s kingdom. Those who trust in Him are eternally secure. As Jesus promised, no one can snatch His sheep from His hand. Through His death and resurrection, believers are united to Him and guaranteed a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

In a world filled with fear and instability, Psalm 125 calls us to confidence:

  • God surrounds His people.

  • God limits wickedness.

  • God preserves the upright.

  • God’s kingdom will endure forever.

Peace belongs to those who trust in the Lord.
