On the second Sunday of Advent, we are reminded that Advent is not merely a season of waiting for Christmas, but a season of waiting for the return of Christ. Last week focused on hope; this week centers on peace—a peace that the world cannot create but God alone can give.

The message draws from Luke 1:26–38, the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary. While Zechariah struggled to believe God’s promise, Mary responded with faith seeking understanding. Though the virgin birth seemed impossible, the angel declared a powerful truth: “Nothing will be impossible with God.” Mary’s humble response—“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word”—models what faithful obedience truly looks like.

This passage reveals the mystery of the Incarnation: Jesus is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit. The virgin birth shows that salvation is entirely God’s work, not human effort. Jesus fulfills every promise God made—to Eve, Abraham, and David—and His kingdom will reign forever.

True peace comes through trusting and obeying God, even when His calling seems costly or unclear. Like Mary, believers are called to respond with humility, faith, and obedience—trusting that God can do the impossible. As we wait for Christ’s return, we live as peacemakers, sharing the peace we now have with God through Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
