Missions Emphasis Sunday

Book: Acts, Matthew

Pastor Jerry Park teaches the mission of every follower of Jesus: evangelism and discipleship, grounded in the Great Commission (Matthew 28). He highlighted two meanings of “Go”: (1) go to the nations—especially the unreached in the 10/40 Window—and (2) as you are going—make disciples in everyday life (workplace, neighborhood, NYC’s diverse communities). He shared field reports from Cambodia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Iraq, Tunisia, and Malawi: medical clinics, English/computer classes, children’s ministry, and business/leadership training as relational bridges for the gospel, with many prayed for and some professing faith. Using the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25), he urged believers to reject fear and laziness, steward God-given skills (not just “churchy” gifts), start small and act immediately, trusting God to multiply faithfulness over time. He closed by praying that each person would recognize their gifts, see their local mission field, and—if called—go to hard places where access to the gospel is minimal.

Key takeaways

  • Mission = evangelism + discipleship for every believer, not just pastors/missionaries.
  • “Go” means overseas and as you live; NYC itself contains “all nations.”
  • The 10/40 Window remains vastly unreached; creative ministries (health care, education, jobs) open doors.
  • Steward your talents now; fear is the #1 excuse—start small, act, and God will expand your impact.
