Jesus returns to His hometown of Nazareth and is rejected by his own people. His authoritative teaching and works are acknowledged and dismissed because they couldn’t get over their familiarity toward him that had turned into contempt. We too are familiar with the Jesus we love: the One who loves us, provides for us, and protects us. Could our familiarity with Jesus turn into contempt as it did for the people of Nazareth, especially when He makes demands of us that calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him?
