“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).
Pastor Tim Black contrasts the world’s definition of blessing—power, fame, wealth—with Jesus’ call to purity. Humanity, though created in God’s good image, has polluted the world and ourselves through sin. Purity of heart means more than outward morality; it’s an undivided heart aligned with God, integrating thought, will, emotions, body, relationships, and soul under His rule.
Through Christ’s sacrifice, believers receive His righteousness, but sanctification is a lifelong process. Purity is nurtured not by obsessing over sin, but by pursuing Jesus wholeheartedly. A pure heart bears good fruit naturally and resists being shaped by worldly pollutants like pride, materialism, and hypocrisy.
The reward—seeing God—includes being in His presence, being awestruck by His glory, and being comforted by His grace, now in part and fully in eternity. Loving God and neighbor are central, as serving “the least of these” is serving Christ Himself.
Examine your heart—whether it needs encouragement, renewed focus, or a brand-new heart in Christ—and let God do the deep work of purification from the inside out.
